‘Anderen zeggen, het is liefde’

Vijf korte verhalen exclusief geschreven voor Turnover

January 2013

2. Niet Amy
Even voorstellen; haar naam was Amy.

The Turnover Reversibles

Collection Spring 2014

July 2013

This season we are proud to launch Turnover Reversibles. A collection that consists of five iconic
fashion garments reinterpreted by head designer Arna Cornelissen and her team.
Each season the design team aims to build a collection around true innovation by delving into a
process that challenges the creative and technical elements of fashion design. For Spring 2014,
Turnover Reversibles is a sartorial achievement that is both inventive and sophisticated. The team
employed ingenious techniques to create a collection that balances the versatility of double-sided
garments while upholding the modern aesthetics of the Turnover brand.

The process involved in the reconceptualisation of five iconic silhouettes. First each garment was
stripped down to its bare bones and then rebuilt with a dual functionality. The aim was not to play
up the reversibility but to let it guide the design. Seams are used as a contrast in one garment
then totally hidden in the next. There is a noticeable interplay with colours and fabrics are used to
complement the methods of construction. Overall, the unique craftsmanship that is valued in all of
Turnover’s design triumphs by delivering a collection that is modern, feminine and subdued.

The Chanel jacket
The Chanel jacket has been executed in 2D, in a hyper-modern tweed with raffia. When worn on
one side, the jacket has a graphic look, while the other side has a much softer appeal, which is
partly because of the transparent cotton/silk combined with a placed print. The inventive use of
bias tape ensures the jacket’s perfect finish on both sides.

Little Black Dress
Contrasting materials have been used for the Little Black Dress. The details, among which are
perforated leather and felled seams, provide a highly structured look. Reversed, the black and white
striped patchwork pattern, in cotton/silk, conveys a light organza-like feel. The style of this LBD is
feminine and elegant.

The Long Biker Jacket
The starting point for the long biker jacket was a double-weave jersey fabric in contrasting colours
(black and off-white). The contrasts created by the seams provide a graphic interplay and result in
an elegant all-black side, without any stitching whatsoever. The sleeves are accented with
perforated leather and the taped seams come in a contrasting colour, making a bold statement
when worn inside out.

Classic Sweater
This sweater is both a reversible and a two-in-one item. On the one side, it is off-white with a knit
singlet visible underneath. Worn on the reverse side, an entirely different item emerges: a cotton
sweater topped with a knit cotton/cashmere spencer in Breton stripes.

Classic Loose Fit Trousers
The classic jogging pants with tapered legs and elastic have been restyled for this theme. Thanks
to traditional sewing techniques, this classic item is off-white on one side, and completely black
when worn in the reverse.

The Great Turnaround

Millou van Rossum NRC

June 23. 2013

The Great Turnaround

Last weekend acclaimed fashion journalist Milou van Rossum wrote an article in the weekend edition

of Dutch leading newspaper NRC titled ‘The Great Turnaround.’ It begins with a description of the

piece that won her affections and stole the show: a shorthaired wool coat in a shade of Prussian blue

with a subtle peacock print. Milou delves into the history of the brand covering the highs and lows of

Turnover’s 25-year-old heritage. Going back to the early two thousands when the brand was one of the

great successes of Dutch fashion and the challenging years when it felt the bite of global competition.

The return of the ‘new’ Turnover is met with optimism as Milou highlights some of the brands assets

such as the ingrained values of quality and style. The creative studio gets a mention where all the

samples are made in-house and where the design team focuses on tailored pieces and knitwear.

Arna Cornelissen’s also shares her design philosophy and her ambition to meet the needs of the

modern woman.

You can see the full article below or read it on the NRC website in Dutch.

Flagship store in Antwerp

The store is designed to be a canvas to the collection.

August 2012

The first Turnover Concept Store has recently opened its doors in Antwerp, right next to

MoMu on Nationalestraat. The Turnover collection takes centre stage in a timeless ambience

created with unexpected materials.

The store interior has been designed by interior architects Xander Vervoort and Leon van Boxtel

of X+L. Their design signature perfectly fits the Turnover brand philosophy. Sources of inspiration

were Le Corbusier's modernism from the twenties to the fifties. Those times, and the enduring

quality, are also typical features of the Turnover collections.
